Correction of inverted nipple

This procedure can be performed on women bothered by unilateral or bilateral inversion of nipples. It cannot be performed during pregnancy or breast-feeding (lactation).

It is possible to perform a procedure with the interruption of the main outlets of the gland in women who are no longer planning another pregnancy. When the mammary gland outlets are interrupted, the outcome of the procedure is more certain and more permanent (if the mammary gland outlet is not interrupted, delayed recurrence often occurs).

Women who plan to become pregnant in the future should not have their main milk ducts interrupted, as this could make breastfeeding impossible in the future.

Form of intervention

Nipple adjustment can be performed on an outpatient basis or during short-term hospitalisation.

The hospitalisation, if necessary, takes a maximum of about 1-2 days.

Method and course of procedure

The procedure is performed under local or general anaesthesia.

The skin incision is located in the area of the areola and nipple.

Shortened milk ducts are released during the procedure (sometimes it is necessary to completely interrupt the milk ducts to achieve the desired result).

Postoperative course and recommendations

In total, the procedure takes about 20-40 minutes. The procedure leaves small scars located in the area of the areola. Sometimes it is necessary to temporarily fixate the nipple with a silicone ring or another support device for a few days after the procedure. Analgesics are given should the patient complain of pain in the postoperative period. Drains, if used, are most often removed 1-2 days after the surgery. Sutures are removed approximately 10-14 days after the surgery. After the wounds have healed, it is necessary to take care of the scars. The average recovery time after this procedure is about 1-3 weeks. It is not recommended to do sports during this time.

Price calculation

This procedure is not covered by health insurance

The total price of the procedure is given by the sum of the price for the procedure itself, the price for general/local anaesthesia and the price for eventual hospitalisation according to its length.

This procedure is performed in our facility by all plastic surgeons.
